Redruth, when combined with its larger neighbour Camborne, has the biggest population in Cornwall according to Wikipedia.

But Redruth still has the feel of a small town which makes it popular with people buying and renting there.

It was always in the shadow of local towns and villages until a copper ore boom in the 18th century saw it become one of the largest and richest mining areas in the United Kingdom.

As the mining boom declined in the UK in the 19th century, many skilled miners from the town headed off to South America, South Africa, and Australia in search of new opportunities.
